A couple of years ago, this 30-something guy realized his IT skillset was out of date like Windows 7 in 2021, and decided to make the choice to patch and learn about things such as Infrastructure as Code, Cloud Infrastructure, Version Control, Containers, Programming Languages, Continuous Integration and Deployment, and DevOps practices so that his career in IT wasn’t a parody of Geek Squad/IT Crowd.
One Frankenstein like homelab (where this blog is hosted from for now), courses from Linux Academy/ACloudGuru/Udemy, an AWS Associate Level Certification, a rudementary understanding of Python, and currently learning Kubernettes later……
I’m still patching my skillset like a Windows Update on Windows Server 2016.
Still need to learn Go, still need to learn CI/CD, and whatever else might become the new flavor of the day in the upper echelons of IT.
This blog is part of my continued journey of #PatchingMySkillset.
Hopefully the stories and information that I share helps someone somewhere realize that IT as a career field has gone through more changes than a Cher concert, and that to succeed here, you will always be learning some random new thing that probably isn’t big right then, but will become the defacto standard in a few years.
Welcome.
